McIlvaine Smith helps kick off national environmental campaign

State Rep. Barbara McIlvaine Smith, D-156th, of West Chester, participated in the kickoff Tuesday of a national campaign to promote clean energy legislation in Washington. “I really believe we need to pass a comprehensive clean energy bill that addresses climate change,” said McIlvaine Smith. The legislator joined supporters of Repower Pennsylvania at their headquarters at 203 S. High St. in launching a 72-hour phone blitz to contact the environmental group’s 85,000 members. The group is urging its members to call U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Arlen Specter and ask them to support a comprehensive clean energy and climate bill that will be coming before the Senate in the next week or two. The 72-hour phone blitz is also being promoted by PennEnvironment and the Sierra Club and dozens of other environmental groups across the country that are urging their members to flood Washington with calls.
