Ohioans participate in video urging their Senator to pass legislation
As oil continues to gush in the Gulf of Mexico in one of the worst environmental disasters in America’s history, and America’s families continue to experience tough economic times, Ohioans are calling on Senator Brown to honor his promise to help end our dependence on oil and transition to a clean energy economy. Today, Ohioans from all walks of life gathered at the offices of Senator Brown and delivered a video showcasing Ohioans reading the letters they have received from Senator Brown in which he promises to support clean energy.
“What could be more American than writing your Senator about one of the most important issues facing the Ohio economy and our national security?” said Ray Miller, a business owner and community leader in Columbus. “With the disaster in the Gulf, we’re seeing in graphic detail why we should be doing everything possible to end our dangerous dependence on oil. Now is the time for action, and now is the time for Senator Brown to honor his promise to support strong clean energy solutions.”
To date more than eleven thousand Ohioans have taken the time to write a letter to Senator Brown raising their concerns about the energy future of Ohio. Estimates show that clean energy and climate policies could create 2 million jobs, including nearly 61,000 in Ohio.
Currently, the United States spends about a billion dollars a day on oil, much of that money going overseas to unfriendly regimes.
“It’s pretty easy to draw a straight line from our dependence on oil to many of the national security problems facing our nation,” said Wendy Bednar a veteran from Akron. “Instead of sending billions of dollars overseas, we should be investing it here, in clean energy, which will strengthen our economy, create millions of jobs, improve our national security, and help solve the climate crisis.”

Senator Brown please stop Cap and Trade…It is just another TAX on all US Citizens. A scaled down version is like being a little bit pregnant! Just tell them all we’ve had enough and NO MORE!
Tell John Kerry and the rest of the Senate to stop Cap and Trade…It is another TAX on all US Citizens. This is an Obama scam to steal our money and give it to the Chicago Climate Exchange. Look up CCX. Al Gore, Goldman Sachs, Joyce Foundation and of course Barack Hussein Obama. They are all part of the planned heist!
i beleive the cap and trade is completly out of line and just more tax and control. as for the oil we need to drill and be independent of other countries and at the same time work on renewable energy.Drill in alaska your not going to hurt a thing
United States’s economy does not succumb to the OPEC’s quota. United States can do it , for example the landing of spacecraft on the moon. United States must push harder for the absolute, independent usage of renewable energy.
Without relying on fossil fuels, there will not be second 9/11 incident on the U.S. soil.
As American taxpayers, we all worry about increasing taxes. However, as representatives for American tax payers, senators absolutely need to drown out the background noise created by interest groups and lobbyists for oil companies. America has one of the best governments in the world precisely because the people who make up our government understand a mounting crisis when they see it.
Working towards clean American energy will create jobs for Americans and create more tax dollars for our government to run smoothly. What more could a reasonable government want?
clean energy now!
It has been reported that Obama and the Interior Dept. are going to open up 1.8 million acres of Alaskan North Slope land to oil drilling…that on top of the pipelines being built into the US from Alberta to pipe in toxic, bitumen tarsands crude… and the sound of crickets here is deafening. I find it such a slap in the face that you all think he is going to actually work to get us off fosill fuels as he continues to give us all the finger. And at the same time he throws us a little solar bone to make us think he really cares about renewable energy, but in the end it is still coal and oil and even nuclear that get the brunt of loans and the ability to continue raping this planet to fill their bank accounts. And of course they get bailed out with our tax dollars so they can continue the circle jerk. So what was that again about calling on him or this Congress to work for a climate bill that adequately addresses climate change? How will that ever happen now with actions like this? How do we wean off fossil fuels if alternate energies are not given parity? Germany announced they are aiming to get 100% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2050. And yet, here we are still digging and polluting the planet for oil and coal, while the very environmental groups that should be outraged about it and standing up for this planet and us continue to give this administration a free ride on their Bush like tactics and doubletalk.
