100% Clean Electricity
100% clean electricity means all of America's demand for power will be met only by carbon-free sources within 10 years. That means sources like improved energy efficiency; renewable power like wind, solar, and geothermal; existing carbon-free electricity like conventional hydropower and nuclear power; and fossil fuel power plants that capture and store their carbon pollution.
100% clean electricity will help solve the climate crisis
Today's power sector emits large quantities of carbon dioxide, which is a global warming pollutant. Moving quickly to reduce this pollution by relying on proven, reliable, cost-effective carbon-free sources of electricity will help us solve the climate crisis. Plus, a clean power system paves the way toward clean cars too: it will enable us to plug in electric cars, charge them with renewable electricity, cut our addiction to oil, and reduce America's global warming emissions from gasoline.
100% clean electricity will create jobs and rebuild our economy
Investing in renewable energy will create millions of American jobs that use the skills of today's workers – jobs here in America that cannot be outsourced. These "green" jobs range from manufacturing, construction and installation, to engineering, design and material science. We must ensure that new jobs and training are available for workers across the country, and that clean energy industries move into communities affected by the transition away from fossil fuels.
100% clean electricity will save money
At a time when fossil fuel prices are volatile and global energy demand is increasing, shifting the majority of our electricity generation to power sources with free and limitless fuel makes sense. And energy efficiency upgrades throughout our economy means that people and businesses can begin lowering their utility bills right away.
100% clean electricity will make America safer
Currently, we are sending hundreds of billions of dollars overseas every year to pay for oil. By reducing our reliance on foreign oil, our energy dollars will go to American businesses and jobs that will strengthen the economy and we will reduce our exposure to energy conflicts overseas. And, by helping to solve the climate crisis, we will prevent climate impacts that, security experts warn, could destabilize politically vulnerable regions around the world.
