- Florida Power & Light Company finished building its DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in October of 2009, which will bring commercial-scale solar photovoltaic power to Florida for the first time. The 25-megawatt plant is the largest solar photovoltaic facility in the nation and will provide enough electricity to power more than 3,000 homes. The facility will help boost the local economy with more than $2 million in annual tax revenues.
