What is Repower America?
America faces unprecedented economic, environmental and national security challenges. We urgently need new jobs, stable energy prices, and freedom from dirty fossil fuels and global warming pollution.
Until people in the U.S. and around the world insist that effective climate policies are an urgent priority, many governments will continue dragging their feet. To address this, the Alliance for Climate Protection has launched Repower America -- an unprecedented large-scale campaign to build overwhelming public support for the most far-reaching climate and energy policies achievable. The Repower America campaign works to compel hundreds of millions of people to demand action from their leaders to halt the climate crisis and support our transition to a clean energy economy.
There is a rising tide of public support for the same solutions that will address our economic and climate crises, and in 2009 we have the opportunity to call on our elected leaders to take the bold action necessary to save our economy and our planet. The Repower America campaign is focused on adopting and implementing effective and comprehensive solutions for the climate crisis in order to:
- Jumpstart our economy and create millions of jobs
- Help end our dependence on foreign oil
- Reduce the threat of harmful pollution
- Reward innovation and job creation, not polluters
What is Repower America doing today?
We are working to generate the necessary pressure that will help promote our agenda quickly and effectively in the coming weeks through an integrated media, political, field and legislative campaign that will deepen our reach to the American people. And we are engaging a variety of partners – labor, business, faith-based and public interest organizations that are now working together to educate diverse constituencies about climate change and persuade the American public to make solving the climate crisis a priority.
Entrenched special interests have already begun to engage in disinformation and tactics to block urgently needed action. They continue to spend large resources funded by the coal industry, oil companies and coal-burning utilities – and plenty of others who want to preserve the status quo. They don’t realize that Americans want change – not scare tactics.
In order for solutions to be implemented and a transition to a truly clean energy economy to begin, we will need to bring to bear immense pressure from the American people to call for solutions. We are educating the public about the economic opportunities that accompany the repowering of America, and presenting the truth about why we need this transformation to clean energy. We are asking the American people to help us Repower America.
